Veteran Services
Veteran Services
Veterans experiencing homelessness have access to a separate, well-funded system of programs. That includes long-term housing vouchers, rapid rehousing assistance, VA medical care, and a dedicated national hotline staffed around the clock. If you served, you earned these benefits — let someone help you access them.
What to expect
What happens when you ask for this kind of help
Every program is different, but here is what most people experience when they reach out for veteran services help.
- Call the VA National Call Center for Homeless Veterans: 1-877-4AID-VET (1-877-424-3838) — available 24/7.
- HUD-VASH provides long-term rental vouchers paired with VA case management. There may be a waiting list.
- SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) offers rapid rehousing and short-term financial assistance.
- VA medical care is available for eligible veterans regardless of income — you don't need to be enrolled in advance to get emergency care.
- Stand-downs — one-day events offering food, services, and benefits help all in one place — happen in most cities. Ask your local VA about the schedule.
