About Common Ladder
Common Ladder is a civic technology platform that makes homelessness services visible and navigable — for people seeking help, case managers coordinating care, and city leaders trying to understand what works. The platform maps shelter, housing, food, legal aid, and other critical services, and publishes evidence and policy analysis for decision-makers at every level.
The core problem Common Ladder addresses is infrastructure: in most cities, the information layer connecting people to resources is fragmented, outdated, and built for internal bureaucratic use rather than the people it's supposed to serve. Common Ladder builds the public-facing layer that makes the whole system legible — a free, no-login-required directory that works on a low-end phone with limited connectivity.
Common Ladder is an independent civic project. It does not run shelters, provide direct services, or advocate for specific policy positions. It builds infrastructure: the map, the directory, the evidence base, and the navigation tools that support the people and organizations already doing the work.
